When you start email marketing with Kit, you’ll want to make sure that your sending email address is set up correctly. There are also a few basics in any email marketing account that you may want to set up, like programming the delivery of a lead magnet. Basic set up in Kit is covered in this tutorial 👇
Step 1: Create Your Kit Account
Getting started is simple. Visit kit.com* and sign up for an account. Kit offers a 14-day free trial, giving you plenty of time to explore its features. Depending on your needs, you can continue with the free plan or upgrade to a paid one. One of the biggest upsides to Kit for just starting out entrepreneurs is that you can actually send a lead magnet in the free plan.
Once logged in, you’ll see the main dashboard.
Step 2: Set Up Your Email Sending Options
To send emails, you’ll need to verify your email address. Follow these steps:
- Go to Settings > Email Sending Options.
- Add your email address and verify it by clicking the confirmation link sent to your inbox.
- Use a professional business email address, as it’s essential for email marketing. If you don’t have one, you can set one up through your hosting provider or Google Workspace for a small monthly fee.

Step 3: Create an Opt-In Form
Forms are vital for growing your email list. Here’s how to create one:
- Navigate to Landing Pages and Forms.
- Choose “Form” if you have a website. For embedding, select the “Inline” form template.
- Customize the form fields. While the default is “Email Address,” you can add fields like “Full Name” for better personalization.
- Once designed, publish the form and embed it on your website. Here is a tutorial for embedding on a Squarespace website. And here is one for WordPress with Divi theme.
Step 4: Deliver a Lead Magnet
There are two ways to automate the delivery of a lead magnet. Here is how to do it without the automations section:
- In the form settings, go to the Incentive section.
- Enable the Send Incentive Email option.
- Upload your lead magnet file (e.g., a PDF) or link to a download page.
- Customize the incentive email to include a welcome message and instructions for accessing the lead magnet.
- Save your changes and test the process to ensure smooth delivery.
Step 5: Send Broadcast Emails
The broadcast feature lets you send newsletters or updates to your subscribers. To create a broadcast:
- Go to Broadcasts and start a new campaign.
- Choose a template or start from scratch. Templates with images and text are great for visually appealing emails.
- Customize the email, set a subject line, and select your audience (all subscribers or a specific segment).
- Preview and send your email.
With these steps, you’re ready to start using Kit to grow your email list, engage your audience, and automate your marketing efforts.
